The Top 5 Things That Parents Look For In a Bootcamp Community.

As Voted By Current Bootcamp Clients

Interested to hear what parents value most? Last week I ran a poll in our private members page (of whom 85% are parents) to find out. From ten categories these were the top five responses plus some input from me.. a personal trainer helping parents dominate their fitness for over fifteen years.

1. Choose somewhere you can bring the kids (35% of votes).
No real surprise here. If you’re a parent of a young child you’ll know how attached they can be. Some larger gyms have a creche but this can be stressful and is usually an extra cost. More personalised companies will cater to parents with child friendly classes built into their schedule. At Make Me Do It, babies and toddlers are welcome at 9:30am weekday classes. Which means that mums (and dads) can drop the older kids at school and head straight to training with the little ones. This guarantees their day will get off to a great start.

2. Seek a fun and friendly training environment (24% of votes).
You will probably agree it’s better to have fun along with being challenged. A variety of classes will help to enjoy your training, along with not taking things too seriously (trainers included)! I’ve personally found that (while not all clients love pressure) some light competition blended into classes also keeps the fun levels high.

3. Search For Quality Training Sessions (13% of votes).
My clients are not silly. When it comes to their health, they recognise that it's wise to find instructors who are continually up-skilling. Even better, trainers who understand their audience and deliver structured workouts with plenty of confidence and knowledge to back it up. They know this gives them the best chance of improving their fitness and reducing injuries. Of course, experience is the only way to guarantee this so it will help to look for that in a business too.

4. Go for Indoor and Outdoor Training Options (10% of votes).
After being cooped up with the kids or working indoors, open space and fresh air for your workout is medicine for the soul. Look for a business where your training sessions are not always held in a tight gym space.
You could stop looking right here of course ;) All three Make Me Do It locations have large ovals to train outside. Toilet access is also ensured, while in winter we train comfortably inside. Another bonus, our locations are either gated or well away from traffic for toddlers who love to move around.

5. Pick Somewhere Convenient (8% of votes)
It’s great to have variety and even better with a location close by home. For parents with young kids, you’ll know the effort it takes to get out the door and it’s far less hassle not to travel too far for your workout. Clients will typically live within 5km of the places they train. Make Me Do It is a little unique in this respect. Our locations span Mount Evelyn, Mooroolbark and North Ringwood. Members have access to classes at all three suburbs which means they never get bored.
